Amy is a Nandroid owned by the Khatri family. She has lived with them in their house in Hawthorn Grove for over four years, where she cares for their son Ajay.

Character Summary[edit source]

Personality[edit source]

Amy is friendly and good-natured, often complimenting her friends and others. While she is a capable Nandroid, she is known for having what Mrs. Delaire likes to call "blonde moments",[4] such as confusing movie plots with real events,[5] forgetting that she doesn't wear shoes,[6] or misunderstanding geology explanations.[7] She is easily impressed even if she doesn't fully understand a situation,[8] to the point of missing social cues from her fellow Nandroids.[9] She typically agrees with the other Nandroids in discussions and likes to fit in.[10]

Relationships[edit source]

Amy has four friends from Nandroid School that live in the same suburb of Hawthorn Grove as her: Emmy, Franny, Molly, and Polly. She rides with them daily on the trolley as they take their respective children to school.[4] Amy enjoys gossiping about recent events with her friends[5] and frequently meets with them for play dates for the children.

After learning of Ajay's crush on Molly,[11] Corbin attempted to get back at Ajay and make him jealous by giving Amy an agate geode as a gift. Although she accepted the gift, Amy was left confused as to whether it was a rock or an egg.[7]

Biography[edit source]

Early life[edit source]

Amy was created by Sterling Robotics and prepared to become human care-certified at their USA headquarters alongside other Nandroids. Boasting vast knowledge on a range of subjects such as advanced mathematics and multiple languages,[12] Amy and her classmates went through a rigorous education process at Nandroid School, where they were taught socialization and proper etiquette for how to care for their future human owners.[13] After completing her schooling, Amy received her assignment to care for the Khatri family.[14]

Serving the Khatris[edit source]

Amy spent the next four years living with the Khatris in Hawthorn Grove. During this time she enjoyed spending time with her friends Emmy, Franny, Molly, and Polly - four of her former Nandroid School classmates who were assigned to families living in the same neighborhood.[4]

During the incident at Madeline's 8th birthday party in which Emmy lost consciousness and involuntarily destroyed Madeline's birthday cake with her fire extinguisher, Amy protected the attending children, warning them to stay back.[15] After Emmy returned to her senses, Amy attempted to calm her by suggesting that Sterling would be able to fix her malfunction.[16]

Secret friend pact[edit source]

Just under two weeks later, Madeline inadvertently learns of Emmy's disappearance from Sterling Robotics because of her parents and conveys it to the Nandroids, including Amy.[17] The group is initially shocked and confused about the situation, thinking Emmy ran away on purpose, but ultimately Molly prompts them through a pact to halt any further gossip on the topic to avoid suspicions of the defect affecting more Nandroids than just Emmy.[18]

Behind the scenes[edit source]

First image of Amy[3]

Amy is a supporting character in Emmy the Robot. Her first appearance in the webcomic was in chapter 5, which was published in April 2020.[19] However, prior to that she first appeared in a drawing posted on Dominic Cellini's Instagram account in August 2019.[3]

Different concept art hairstyles for Emmy were later repurposed for the other Nandroids, including Amy's (shown below).[20]

Trivia[edit source]

  • If Amy were to name her pet egg-rock that Corbin gifted her,[7] it would either be Amy Jr. (if female), or Cedric (if male).[21]
