Main Page/Year in review
2024[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
The wiki has survived year two! Just like last year, I'd like to take a look back at some of the more interesting developments that happened over 2024. I continued working on the fandroid list and made some great progress on getting it completed as well as adding what few tidbits of canon information were revealed this year. With the additions to the codebase, I believe the wiki is now feature complete! A big accomplishment, but not one I was actively working towards. Things will continue to change and evolve, but I can't think of anything that needs tweaked or added and I'm happy with how everything looks and functions. It's really exciting for me to be able to have done all of this and then share it with anyone interested!
This year we held our first annual Edit-a-thon for the wiki, with the people who made the most edits receiving some free artwork! Along with the people who participated, a solid thank you to all the users who added information throughout the rest of the year as well: Sunsy, H98B, Neppy, C4i0, Epicboi, JollyCordie, PaladarZNG, EACA, and ModGuy! And a super special thank you to Mark Tannen and PetraMagna for their assistance in code tweaking!
One of the big code additions was the adding of a search bar on the List of fan Nandroids and List of fan stories pages. What before was a monolithic wall of text that required a browser search, can now be searched through from within the page! The search bar was implemented using Javascript, and will suppress any rows from the lists that don't have text matching your search, allowing you to easily find characters by name, description, creator, or date! This was something I had wanted when the wiki first started but had no idea how to implement it at the time. I came back to it a few times in the past but never made any progress. It's surreal to see it working now, I never thought it would!
I also added a small line near the top of the fan Nandroid list that shows how many entries there currently are to the list. As of this writing we have 417 Nandroids listed!
I was also able to beautify the front page by adding some Nandroid artwork to help balance things out.
A change you (probably) didn't notice was rewriting the code that makes the background scroll. Even though on modern systems it took up a minuscule (under ~1% on mine) amount of processing power, people on older (10+ years) or lower powered systems could have trouble rendering the pages. After optimizing the code, pages should take up much less CPU time (minimum 20% improvement?) and run smoother.
A smaller update was the creation of a new script to handle parsing stories from the fan list page to their respective character pages. Before it was just the same template copy/pasted, so if a change was made it would have to have been manually updated across all instances (which I didn't do, forgive me). But now the story data on each character page is pulled from the fan stories entry automatically so it only needs to be updated there to propagate to all relevant pages!
One of the more interesting, and completely impromptu additions, was nailing down how multilingual pages would work. When Gossy's page was being created, her creator wanted to know how to add a page in, of all languages, Chinese! Using the <tabber> add-on, which has been enabled since the start of the wiki but criminally underutilized, we got a working page that has both languages, and can easily be scaled up to include more! Except more pages to be translated into other languages in the coming year!
And finally, one of the biggest additions for Emmy content this year was the creation of the Nanbooru, an Emmy the Robot art archive! This was something that's been sorely needed and while I thought it was a cool idea, in the beginning I had no idea how to set one up. After a little digging I went ahead and just jumped right in, March 2024. It's been a slow learning process on the admin side of things but I've been working to get as much fan art as possible uploaded and tagged, and tying the wiki and booru together so people can easily jump from one to the other. The sites should work in tandem to help provide as much information as possible about Emmy and related fan content.
Booru[edit | edit source]
On the booru side of things, much progress has been made with getting it filled out and finding all the Emmy artwork that I can! To the best of my ability I have (nearly) completely scoured Twitter, Instagram, Pixiv, Deviantart, and Newgrounds, bringing the site to a total of, as of this writing, 5,438 pieces of art! Thanks to all those who have helped tag and upload things this year, every little bit helps. I hope to keep digging through other social media sites and get all caught up with older Emmy art in the coming year.

2023[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
It's the first year anniversary for the wiki! With a solid year of growth I wanted to reflect on it's progress and be able to look back and see certain milestones in the future. The ultimate goal is to have an entry for most Nandroids on the fandroid list and as much information as possible for each as well as a listing for stories. A tall order that is still far away, but progress is being made with the help of the users who have published pages/changes. A super special thank you to the users who added information: JollyCordie, PaladarZNG XX2, RblxGuest, Rippen Tehr, 183231bcb, and Muffinz. I'm excited to see even more people make even more edits in year two!
When the wiki was first launched I didn't plan on the then color scheme and layout to last forever, but after checking through a multitude of other Miraheze hosted wikis I've come to appreciate just how good this wiki looks. It's clean, concise layout was always intended, it's just surprising how good we were able to make it by Frankensteining bits and pieces from other sites. So while I'm open to change, the current layout still looks professional enough that I'm not in any hurry to update it.
Taking this year to make pages and fill in information has also helped to solidify exactly what a page should look like and how it should function, and has helped clarify where missing information could be added. Since last year I was able to implement spoiler text, add additional information to character pages by adding Manufacturer to the infobox, the addition of a Tags section to the fan stories list, and I made use of category pages to help group characters by story or similarities.
By the numbers[edit | edit source]
We grew from 41 articles at launch (mainly consisting of canon characters) to 87 articles (mostly fan characters), made with 1,035 new edits, totaling 3,441! We saw the creation of many new pages for characters, like:
