David is a fanon botler, the male equivalent of a Nandroid. He is owned by the Warner Family where he cares for their three children, teenagers Evan and Darcia, and a younger son, Lucias. David was made to resemble David Bowie. Due to an accident and the subsequent repairs, he looks even more like his namesake than before. He speaks with a British accent. While David is close with the children, especially Lucias, his owner Aurella has a soft spot for him, treating him like a surrogate husband as she feels disillusioned in her marriage.
Summary
The Warners: Meet David
David was originally purchased by Mr. Benjamin Arthur Warner as a Christmas gift for his family. Benjamin wanted to get a Nandroid, but his wife, Aurella, who was pregnant with their third child, Lucias, had fears of him running of with the android and so a botler was purchased instead. Due to the fact that Aurella was pregnant, Sterling Robotics upgraded David to a "plus-grade" model free of charge, meaning he was taller than the a standard botler and meant for housework, advanced education aid, minor construction, and even security detail for home and personal use.[3]
David's Voice
A week after Christmas, Aurella is expecting the imminent birth of Lucias. After a small early birth scare, she opens up to David about his looks, stating that he was requested to be built to look like musician David Bowie. After the two speak about Bowie, Aurella asks David to begin speaking with a British accent, to "go the whole nine yards”.
A few days later Aurella gives birth to Lucias, and while still at the hospital, invites David to hold the newborn. Using his newfound voice and inspiration from records he had listened to, David sings Strangers When We Meet and helps the crying Luke fall asleep.[4]
How David Got a New Nose
Two years later, David is still caring for the Warner family. On Evan's 13th birthday, as Evan was carrying his new gift, a baseball bat, he accidentally hit David in the head, causing his nose to break and damaging an eye. David is rushed to a Sterling repair technician by Benjamin and it's revealed that the damage is mostly cosmetic, with very little lasting damage being done. After a quick fix on David's eye, resulting in it being a different color than it was before, he is able to choose a new nose. Once his new nose is put on, the technician and Benjamin remark how good it looks, saying the repairs make him look even more like David Bowie. As Benjamin pays he reveals that he will soon be buying another botler.
Benjamin and David return home, showing the repairs to Aurella, who blushes and falls into a daze. After Evan apologizes to David, Lucias comes in and is unsure of David's new look, ignoring David's attempts to speak with him.[5]
David's Saving Grace
Two weeks later and David has had a marked change in his demeanor, acting more like a butler than the family member he had grown to be to the Warner's. Aurella presses him one day and learns he is greatly saddened by how Lucias has been treating him, as he's still afraid of David's new look. She suggests David and the kids go to see a movie while she is at a gala and David agrees to do so. This chapter remains unfinished.[6]
Trivia
- Being a "plus-grade" model, David was nearly 6 feet tall (183cm), had a slightly longer face, a fully modular voice, and could fit into most standard men’s uniforms.[3]
- He can speak 27 languages, including Elvish, Dweamor, Yautja, Praetorian and proper Draconic.[3]
