Character Summary[edit source]

Kinsley is a fanon Nandroid who is skilled at making toys intended for children ages five to eighteen. Her original arms were severed from her body and new ones were given to her by her benefactor, an old man referred to only as "Papa". The new arms are bare, having only essential components and ending in hands where the fingers are claws. While they enable her to perform more meticulous work, such as piecing together toys that require a high level of precision, the harsh looking design is hated by her for making her look more threatening than she is.

Kinsley was never assigned to a family by Sterling Robotics. She also has no recollection of attending Nandroid School. Due to this, her Papa had to essentially adopt and teach her himself like a daughter. This method of learning has caused Kinsley to lack professional training in care and make her more naïve of the outside world than most Nandroids. In essence, if Nandroids have the mental maturity of a woman in her 20s, Kinsley is around 15, although more of a standard Nandroid awareness comes out during key moments.

While not aware of it at first, Kinsley is not only the last Nandroid, but the last robot on the planet that is still functional after a serious conflict has left the world in a perpetual winter for nearly a century. Because she was unable to provide care to anyone prior to her adoption, her goal is to provide what she is able to given the circumstances. Her method of doing this, as taught to her by Papa, is to utilize the materials she is given to craft makeshift toys for the children remaining. Although she is doubtful at this prospect, she is still a hopeful individual who believes she can benefit the world and fulfill her original function.

Behind the Scenes[edit source]

  • Kinsley and the Toy is considered a loose adaptation of Andrew Kerekes' surviving short film Snow Snow For Lucy
  • The story was originally meant to be the final part of a holiday trilogy of fanfiction, meant to represent Christmas.
    • This followed the Halloween story, Franny and the Happy OnesAO3 link, and the Thanksgiving one, Amy and the Thanksgiving PlayAO3 link.

Trivia[edit source]

  • According to an old copy of the first scene of Kinsley's story, her name was originally meant to be Abby. Not to be confused with the actual Nandroid name for Koko the Clown.
  • Kinsley is a name of British origin whose royal connotations include Kingsley and Kinsey.
    • The translations for these royal connotations means "King's Meadow" and is the same name as the city Kinsley is traveling too.
