Molly is a Nandroid owned by the Mendenhall family. She takes care of their son Corbin.
Character Summary
Personality
Molly is very confident and has a no-nonsense view of the world. She will serve her family and other humans with courtesy and politeness, but is usually more harsh and reserved when dealing with the other Nandroids, and can come off as haughty and jealous if others are praised over her.[3] While she can be viewed as a bully, much of what she believes is often repeated or reinforced by the other Nandroids. She also casually refers to Emmy as "amazing" when describing her skill at making macarons,[4] showing an interest and acceptance in excellence.
One of Molly's most distinct features are her eyelids, which are slightly lowered most of the time, making her look either bored or smug. She is also the only Nandroid of her group to wear eyeliner.
Relationships
Molly has four friends from Nandroid School that live in the same suburb of Hawthorn Grove as her: Amy, Emmy, Franny, and Polly. She rides with them daily on the trolley as they take their respective children to school.[5] Molly enjoys gossiping about recent events with her friends[6] and frequently meets with them for play dates for the children.
Molly is most often paired with her friend Polly, and they are seen gossiping and laughing to themselves often, typically at the expense of Franny or a juicy piece of gossip.
Ajay has a crush on Molly, much to the chagrin of Corbin. When Ajay gifted her a flower, Molly happily accepted it.[7]
Biography
Early life
Molly was created by Sterling Robotics and prepared to become human care-certified at their USA headquarters alongside other Nandroids. Boasting vast knowledge on a range of subjects such as advanced mathematics and multiple languages,[8] Molly and her classmates went through a rigorous education process at Nandroid School, where they were taught socialization and proper etiquette for how to care for their future human owners.[9] After completing her schooling, Molly received her assignment to care for the Mendenhall family.[10]
Serving the Mendenhalls
Molly spent the next four years living with the Mendenhalls in Hawthorn Grove. During this time she enjoyed spending time with her friends Amy, Emmy, Franny, and Polly - four of her former Nandroid School classmates who were assigned to families living in the same neighborhood.[5]
Molly attended Madeline's 8th birthday party,[11] during which Emmy lost consciousness and involuntarily destroyed Madeline's birthday cake with her fire extinguisher.[12] After Emmy returned to her senses, Molly helped usher her away and reassure her that her friends were there for her.[13] However, she later expressed doubts about Emmy's status.[14]
Behind the scenes
Molly is a supporting character in Emmy the Robot. Her first appearance in the webcomic was in chapter 5, which was published in April 2020.[9] However, prior to that she first appeared in a drawing posted on Dominic Cellini's Instagram account in August 2019.[2]
Trivia
- The Mendenhalls own a Gourmet-bot for cooking,[7] and are considerably rich to own multiple robots for other tasks. It can therefore be assumed that Molly has the easiest job out of her group of friends due to having less tasks to do around the house.
- Molly has always been competitive.[15]
