Franny is a Nandroid owned by the Flagg family. She has lived with them in their house in Hawthorn Grove for over four years, where she cares for their five children, in particular the youngest twin boys, Nathan and Ryan.
Character Summary[edit | edit source]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Franny is chronically overworked and unsure of herself. She is constantly dealing with keeping the twins safe and stopping them from getting into trouble, and usually makes self-deprecating jokes when she is running late,[4][5] which is most of the time. Despite having an increased workload and always being busy, she does her best and is still capable of running her household and providing acceptable care for her family.
Franny likes children, macaroni art, helmets, dogs, Halloween, and having quiet time alone, and dislikes power tools, grape juice stains, toy cars left on the floor, and TV news. Her hobbies include trying to be on time, playing video games with the twins, and holding it together.[6]
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Franny has four friends from Nandroid School that live in the same suburb of Hawthorn Grove as her: Amy, Emmy, Molly, and Polly. She often is late to the trolley stop and will miss the trolley,[7] but will still meet and talk with the other Nandroids when she arrives to drop the children off at school.[4] She frequently meets with the other Nandroids for play dates for the children.
Franny and Emmy seem to be the closest of the group as they have each confided fears and doubts to the other and looked for advice.[8][9]
Some of the older children Franny cares for are teenagers, and have become different people compared to when Franny first met them.[10]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Franny was created by Sterling Robotics and prepared to become human care-certified at their USA headquarters alongside other Nandroids. Boasting vast knowledge on a range of subjects such as advanced mathematics and multiple languages,[11] Franny and her classmates went through a rigorous education process at Nandroid School, where they were taught socialization and proper etiquette for how to care for their future human owners.[12] After completing her schooling, Franny received her assignment to care for the Flagg family.[13]
Serving the Flaggs[edit | edit source]
Franny spent the next four years living with the Flaggs in Hawthorn Grove. During this time she enjoyed spending time with her friends Amy, Emmy, Molly, and Polly - four of her former Nandroid School classmates who were assigned to families living in the same neighborhood.[7]
Franny attended Madeline's 8th birthday party, arriving unusually early with the twins to help Emmy prepare.[14] Later that day, Emmy lost consciousness and involuntarily destroyed Madeline's birthday cake with her fire extinguisher.[15] After Emmy returned to her senses, Franny attempted to calm Emmy down, expressing sincere worry for Emmy and her future.[16]
Secret friend pact[edit | edit source]
Just under two weeks later, while Franny has been helping the Delaire's with getting Madeline to school, Madeline inadvertently learns of Emmy's disappearance from Sterling Robotics because of her parents and conveys it to the Nandroids, including Franny.[17] The group is initially shocked and confused about the situation, thinking Emmy ran away on purpose, but ultimately Molly prompts them through a pact to halt any further gossip on the topic to avoid suspicions of the defect affecting more Nandroids than just Emmy.[18]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Franny was first seen in Emmy the Robot as a background character in chapter 10, which was published in May 2020,[19][20] and has become a supporting character since then. However, prior to that she first appeared in a non-canon quarantine-themed comic posted on Dominic Cellini's Instagram account in April 2020.[3]
